Places of Interest and Things to Do
Montrose
is situated between the cities of Aberdeen to the North
and Dundee to the South . You may wish to go and explore the many
attractons these cities have to offer including cinemas, theatres and
attractive parks, etc.
Montrose itself boasts a very attractive beach and the town has it's own interesting places to visit.
On the B935 just four miles from Montrose you will find the National
Trust Property the House of Dun. An enjoyable time can be spent there on
a guided tour of this Adam period house, there is a weavers workshop where you
can see a traditionl loom in operation, and also the
opportunity to taste some home cooking in the tea room.
On the A92 there is the Montrose Basin Visitor Centre and Wildlife
Reserve - open all year, where birds flock all year round - from
beautiful eider ducks to pink-footed gease, to sand marins nesting in
the specially built artificial sandbank.
There is a nature reserve at St. Cyrus situated on the coast six miles to the
north on the A92.
Montrose boasts a Museum, an Air Station Museum and in the summer the
Caledonian Railway run a steam train between Bridge of Dun and Brechin.
Glamis Castle is a great day out - visit the birthplace of the late
Queen Mother, where you can be guided through the castle and enjoy the
beautiful gardens.
Edzell and the Angus Glens are only ten miles inland and Royal Deeside
is 20 miles away - why not find out how whisky is made by
visiting the Fettercairn Distillery on the way.
For those feeling more energetic there is a leisure centre, lawn
bowling, tennis and of course golf. Montrose Medal course is the fifth
oldest course in the world and a real challenge to the best of golfers.
The subsidary course, the Broomfield is a challenge in itself with
narrower fairways and smaller greens.
